The Army Corp of Engineers did an amazing thing on the Arkansas River. They built a dam with a bridge on top and a canal lock on one side. Talk about multitasking!
While the dam controls water flow on the river, the canal lock allows for barges to go up and down the river and the bridge on top is a busy thoroughfare for travelers.
Added to that is a wonderful campground where I stayed the night; lulled to sleep by the gentle waves on the river.
The campground is known by the oddest of names: Toad Suck campground. It seems that years ago when boats moored on the river, a good place to park the boat was called a suck. So the name Toad Suck stuck to this day.
