I was chatting with Maria the other day. She is a very young 74 with a joyful heart.
She has been very concerned of late for her black labrador, Sophia, who is very old, has a hard time walking. Sophia is on pain medication and now sleeps most of the day and all thru the night.
Maria tells Sophia, When you are ready to ascend, Honey, don’t you worry about me. You’re going to get to see all your little doggie friends again.
She then imagines Sophia saying, Why? I never liked any of them anyway!
But I was very curious about Maria’s choice of words. She did not say “die” or “pass on”; she said Ascend.
So I asked her about it. Her reply: Well, Jesus ascended into heaven and Mary and the saints and my husband, Jimmy. Everybody ascends. That’s what happens. We ascend to the next level, into the heavens.
I have never thought of it like that. I like it. I like it a lot!
