Nothing went according to my plans today and yet the day could not have been better.
I was going to Waldport 5 miles south to do laundry then on to Yachats to walk some trails. In case of rain, the back-up plan was to go north and visit the Maritime Museum in Newport.
At the laundromat, I used 2 washers. One of them did not spin correctly and the clothing was soaking wet. So more time taken up with another washer. Worked great. Everything finally clean, dried, folded and packed in the car.
Dark skies and rainy weather made the museum an easy choice. I headed north but on the way I saw a sign for Ona Beach, one I had never explored. The sky had cleared; the museum could wait for another day.
Once out of the car, I started walking the path to the beach but was met by several deep puddles blocking my way. The grassy areas were swamps. I could have just turned back but decided to walk thru them and dry my boots later.
I am so glad that I did. Ona Beach is a rare find. I could actually see rocks with holes in them where agates had once been embedded.
There was also a large rock with fossils of scallop and clam shells.
The first agate I found on Ona Beach; a one and a half inch beauty shaped like a heart.
Thankful that nothing today went according to my plans ~
