A Month Of Sundays: Day 8 (#536)

Agate Beach in Newport, Oregon goes on forever.  Well, at least a half mile…….without one agate in sight!  Just one big, very wide beach of sand which was very compacted and great for walking.

Later, I found a local and asked where are all the agates.  She told me there have not been agates on that beach for years.  At some point, the  ocean covered them all with tons and tons of sand.

So I went looking for another beach to explore and found Cobble Beach near north Yaquina Lighthouse.

The beach is filled with cobbles.  Black rounded stones made of basalt lava.  Were they hard to walk on?  Like walking on a moving carpet made up of different size marbles.  What a workout!

Just when I was getting in my car to head back to camp, the gray day turned to rain.  What great timing.

Thankful the rain held off for a wonderful day of exploring new places ~

You’re in our neck of the woods now! Cee and I live directly east of Lincoln City. You are making me long for the coast.

My most favorite of lighthouses. I have been able to down to the cobble beach and up in the lighthouse once. Victories for me both times. I love the sound of the waves on the cobbles. I was able to climb the lighthouse stairs just two years after I first got sick and had to relearn how to walk again. That was the best victory I ever felt. So I have lots of memories of it. Sounds like you are having tons of fun. 😀
