A Month Of Sundays: Day 5 (#533)

On my last day in Westport before traveling on toward Oregon tomorrow, I like to think that I helped to save a life.

An early morning walk on the beach led me to this little fellow.

At first, I thought he was just resting

But he was shaking and looked weak

But he was shaking and looked weak…..and sad

Some anchovies were tossed to him but he did not react

I left him to rest and went about my day.  A couple hours passed, I went back to the beach to check on him.

He looked worse.

This little fellow was not getting any better.

I spoke with Marine Mammal Rescue, sent them photos.  First they sent a volunteer out to assess his condition then they brought a rescue truck.

Thankful for being in the right place at the right time ~

ps.  The volunteers asked me to give him a name.  I chose Westport Willie.

Thank you for caring for this precious little one, Anne. We also had to call for a rescue, long ago on the California Coast. They did not ask us for a name, however. Hmmmmm, what would it be, I wonder. Westport Willie is perfect!

    • Great to hear from you, Carrie. This sweet little fellow is a survivor. Thank you for sharing your experience.

      • Carrie says:

Our sickly little guy began barking at people who were getting too near as he hung out on the rocks unable to get back into the rough surf. We kept everyone back to calm him and called a rescue. I haven’t thought of this for a few decades!!!!

Ahh, he is beautiful. So glad they are helping him and it’s all due to you. You are a wonderful person. What a beautiful little guy. Hope he is alright.

Such a heart warming story. You also got some great photos of him.
