Abandoned (Weekly Photo Challenge 02/28/14)

My heart went out to this homeless man who I recently photographed in the sunny seacoast town of Monterey, California.

Without home to call his own

He lay down beside his friend,

The old cannery wall

Both abandoned from some

Long ago time of prosperity

The sun gave them kisses of warmth

The sea lulled them into repose.

I do remember that picture – so sad. How lucky we are.

  2. The only good thing I can say is at least he’s in California, not here in Chicago where he’d be freezing.

  3. Amber says:

Beautiful prose mom! I would like to think the gentleman is simply narcoleptic.
    Much love!!

    • Thank you, Amber. I only meant to post the picture and then these words came tumbling out of my heart and onto the page. I like to think he is enjoying a life of abandon rather than one of abandonment.

  4. Patti Kuche says:

Oh Annie . . . . your words have such warmth.

  5. The Man is probably doing both, living a life of abandon, whilst being abandoned by society.
That my friend is difinately a dichotomy. Your photo made me sigh. 😦

  6. It is definitely ambiguous.

  7. Edge of Chic says:

You have a way with words like no other! Your poetry is always so beautiful.

  8. Bams Triwoko says:

Nice post… so human… so original..
    Best wishes to you… 🙂

  9. Where are you now? More, More! Waiting for an update:)

  10. Paula says:

    You’ve nailed it, Annie!
