Pick It Up, Mississippi (#323)

I just love the litter campaign slogan for the state of Mississippi: Pick it up, Mississippi!  It’s positive and action oriented; like a firm but good natured mom.

Pick it up, Mississippi!  Every time I saw the sign in my travels through this state today I would say it out loud.  Go ahead, say it, isn’t it great!

This is also the state that claims to be the “Birthplace of America’s Music.”  That got me to thinking, What music?  Blues?  Country?  Gospel?  Rock n Roll?  Blue Grass?  Jazz?  They are all America’s Music.

Then that got me thinking that there are lots of places around this country where these different types of music were born.  But Mississippi is the only place to lay claim as the birthplace.

Pick it up, Mississippi!

Ever Grateful,
