Today is my youngest granddaughter’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Arianna!
She is fourteen today, June 2nd. Poor thing! She and her sister and dad are pleasantly plagued by a mother (yes, my daughter) who loves to play practical jokes.
I am telling this story so that hopefully, no one else ever has to be chagrined or pranked by this common car safety device.
It’s one of those things car manufacturers just have to play around with when it comes to placement in the vehicle.
On the Fam’s Subaru, the button for this safety feature is on the middle of the console. Arianna, poor thing, didn’t know what it was.
So recently riding in the car with Amber, her mom, she casually pointed to the button asking What’s that button for, Mommy?
Immediately Amber shouted with dire seriousness Don’t touch that button! It’ll eject you right out of the car!
Well, my very bright granddaughter was NOT going to fall for that. She just said Yeah, Mommy, r-r-right!
But mom persisted I’m not kidding! It’s to help in case of an emergency. If you’re ever in an accident and can’t get out of the car. They use the Jaws of Life and then hit that ejection button to push you out!
Arianna’s response Jaws of Life? Yeah, r-r-r-right!
Mom I’m not making it up, Arianna! They use the Jaws of Life to help cut away at the car to get the people out!
With that said, Amber leaned forward and pushed the red triangle shaped button while Arianna frantically grabbed her seat with both hands thinking she was going to fly through the roof. Poor thing!
Mom sat there laughing, saying You should have seen your face! Meanwhile the red “hazard light” was blinking off and on, off and on.
Arianna, still in shock, started to laugh saying What is wrong with you! What kind of person makes their kid think they’re going to fly out of the car?! It just made her mom laugh even harder.
Happy Birthday, Arianna! Glad you’re still on solid ground!
