Walking along a fitness trail somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon line, I was startled by a rare sight. There, trudging along the forest floor amid pine trees and rhododendron was a possum. A live possum! Not a road kill possum, not a stuffed and mounted possum. This was a healthy little mama ambling her way across my path. What a thrill! (sorry, no picture of her)
Now, on to “where’s Tin Can Traveler now?” You get to see 3 photos recently taken by me to help you discover where I am.
Here’s the tricky one!
Well, not to keep you guessing: that last one is on a hill in Martinsville, Virginia. It’s actually an advertisement for the Hollywood Mountain Movie Theater which sits on top of the mountain. Clever!
At present I am volunteering at a US Army Corps of Engineers lake called Philpott Lake (the 2nd picture). Just imagine what it was like before all the water was put behind Philpott Dam.
The building (1st picture) is the Visitor Center at the lake. And let me tell you it is downright cold here. Why, oh why did I not stay in the south until April?
Next year I won’t come north until May!
Love, Annie

Wow Anne, what a beautiful place. Beautiful blue sky and a very attractive lake. But I agree – south is where you want to be until at least April if not May. Freezing here, tried to walk outside but my face was freezing off! Stay warm and keep the beautiful pictures coming I do enjoy them.
I’ll remember this for next year! Thanks Sher!
Those brilliant blue skies are so misleading! Keep warm Annie and hope you enjoy warm weather soon!
Ditto, Patti!
I love seeing all these places here in the US through you. Thanks for opening my eyes to the beauty in our great country, safe travels and stay warm.
I’m so grateful for your company on this journey, Teresa!
Hey Annie…Sounds like you are enjoying Virginia. I spent a few Thanksgivings there from 2003 – 2006 when my mom and step mom lived there before living full time in WYO. They were in Norfolk. I loved it there. But you are quite a ways from there. We had snow here today and it is only 12 degrees. Miss you my friend!!
Hey Sandy…. it’s always great to hear about the connections we have to a certain place. One day I’ll make it to Norfolk. Stay warm and think Spring! Miss you too! Hope you are making good use of your apron!
Wow, it’s beautiful. I’m sure it’s worth facing the cold to see it. But i\m not one to talk because I’m definitely
not looking forward to returning to the PA winter.
Not to worry! Spring is coming fast!
